I walk, run and stand a lot. I use to wear just regular socks that provided no support at all and I can feel a huge difference while wearing these socks.I haven't tried other athletic socks, so I can't say how good these are compared to them. All I can say is that if you usually wear regular, non-athletic socks you should consider switching to something like these. Especially if you walk 5+ miles a day and stand for 5+ hours at work.
